Since I am a Christian; I don’t believe in the “luck”, leprechauns and other myths associated with St. Patrick’s Day; nor do I partake in the drinking. The drinking was a reason for Catholics to take a break from the Lenten restriction of no alcohol.
But I do enjoy the history of Saint Patrick. First important thing to note is Saint Patrick actually wasn’t from Ireland. He was born in Roman England. He was a slave who was taken to Ireland as a teenager. He escaped slavery and ministered to the people of Ireland and led them to Christianity.
St. Patrick referred to a Shamrock, 3 leaf clover, not 4 leaf. St. Patrick used the 3 leaf clover to explain the trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit of God.
